Our first Mission FireFly trip to San Antonio de Sacatepeque, Guatemala was a great success for all of us who went, but it probably changes us forever from being "passive tourists" when we travel on vacation - to people who look for something good to do for people in the country we are visiting.
In San Antonio we had the opportunity to feel the growing friendships of 100 kids who needed and received shoes, school supplies, clean water, a new medical clinic. We came to realize our wonderful trip to the natural beauty of Central America is not about us, but what we can do to become the constantly expanding vessels God will use to build His Kingdom Worldwide!
Our plan now is to return to San Antonio in October 2009 to build on the projects we have started and also to bring much-needed medical support to the village, and to assist them in constructing some more permanent homes. Most families now live in tin huts with the kitchen inside the structure. This means that everyone is constantly living in the smoke generated by open, wood-fueled cooking fires, thus creating cataracts in the eyes of many - including many of the little kids. They need kitchens which are located away from the living areas of the home, and we will assist them in building cinder-block houses with outside cooking areas.
Our vision is to build at least two homes on the October trip, and eventually to rebuild each of the 23 homes in San Antonio. To do all this we need more of all our resources ...we need more volunteers willing to travel with us to this beautiful, tropical paradise, we need more monetary support from churches and individuals who feel our passionate urge to provide this Outreach, and we need the Prayers of everyone for God to continue to Bless this Ministry.
